Share Fanpop With Your Friends

Hi Fanpoppers. Just wanted to announce a few new features that we’ve rolled out on the site to make your Fanpop experience even better:

Invite a Friend & Share Link

We’ve now made it easer to tell your friends about Fanpop and share the favorite links you discover on the site. Look for “invite a friend” and “share this link” on the spot pages and the link comments pages.

The Fanpop Bookmarklet

A number of fans have been asking us for this, so I’m glad we could oblige. For the uninitiated, a bookmarklet is simply a snippet of code that you can drag and drop onto your browser’s bookmarks toolbar (don’t worry, there’s no spyware or any arduous installation).

It can be found on the ‘add a link’ form as well as on the Fanpop FAQ. I’m also posting it here for your convenience:

  1. Internet Explorer users: Right click on the ‘Add to Fanpop’ image below to add it
  2. Firefox and Safari users: Drag the ‘Add to Fanpop’ button below onto your browser bookmark bar

Add to Fanpop

Once the bookmarklet is present on your browser toolbar, you will be able to quickly and easily add anything you find during your web browsing excursions to Fanpop. When you find an article, video, game, tool, website or anything else you want to share with other Fanpoppers, just click on the ‘Add to Fanpop’ link in your browser bookmark bar. You can then add the link (login if necessary) to any of your subscribed spots and then continue on with your browsing. You’ll be sent right back to the page you were looking at after you are done adding the link.

Deal and Events

Based on user feedback, we now support two new content types when you add a link: deal and event. Additionally, deals and events can be optionally submitted with expiration dates (to help your fellow fanpoppers better know when they have to act by). It also makes sure users aren’t penalized for links that have a time duration and that spots aren’t cluttered with old and crusty links.

Message Notifications

Did you know that when you register for a Fanpop account you also get a Fanpop message box that can be used to communicate with other fans? (you can find it by clicking on ‘my page’ in the upper right corner when signed in).

We’ve tweaked the messaging feature so that you now get notifications when someone adds you as a friend (isn’t it nice to feel popular?) as well as when someone flags one of your links. In the latter case, we want to give you a heads up in case you want to try to rectify the problem (broken link, duplicate, miscategorized) before a moderator attends to it.

Finally, we’ve had multiple requests for Fanpop Badges so that folks can promote Fanpop on their blogs or personal sites. We’ve posted a couple of badges on the FAQ for our most addicted users (and we’ll be working on more customizable badge at some point in the future).

That’s it for now. Please keep the feedback and suggestions coming. We’re all ears when it comes to the Fanpop audience.
