Whoa, I can’t believe it’s been two weeks since we’ve posted to the blog. But don’t worry, we haven’t gone anywhere! We’ve had our heads down crunching on some cool new features that you all have been requesting. Honestly, we love hearing from our users, it’s what inspires us to get up each morning and make the site better and better. Our goal is to make the site easier to use but not give up any functionality along the way. It’s a tough job, but we’re committed to making Fanpop your favorite site to visit each day.
When we first designed the site, we were focused on keeping things really simple and uncluttered. We debated whether or not we need both ratings and bookmarks (saving your favorite links). We decided to streamline things and make it so that whenever you rated a link, it would also save the link for you. We realized over time that a lot of people weren’t catching on to this feature since it was not obvious that rating would do anything other than rate. People are familiar with saving bookmarks and favorites in their browser and on other bookmarking sites, so we decided to add that functionality. Sometimes you don’t want to necessarily save all the links you’ve rated, just the best ones. Now you can click on the little green save button on a link and it will be stored away nicely in a list of your favorite links across the site! And don’t worry, you can still get to all your ratings too!
The other goal we’ve been trying to focus on is streamlining your user profile pages. We decided it was getting a little out of control with all of your activity across the site like ratings, comments, forums, saved links, and soapbox articles. So we came up with a section we call “My Content”. Now you can see all the stuff you or another user has been up to if you’re a fan of their links or just like to hear what a person has to say. It makes it a lot more accessible and easier to be a fan of someone! Now you can spread the love a little more.
We’re still busy doing some housekeeping around the site so we’ll probably be in beta until we get everything neat and tidy for our housewarming party/grand opening. Keep checking this blog for updates on more features and releases! And keep the feedback coming, as you can see, we really do listen!
